Best tools for AI Generative Engine Optimization

We’ve already published a couple of articles aimed at making AI feel less like a mystery and more like a partner for digital publishers – we want to help you see AI not as a threat, but as a tool you can actually use. For instance, we recommend these two texts explaining what Google AI Overviews are and how you can get your content featured in them. This time, we’re flipping the perspective: instead of focusing on how to show up in AI-generated results, we’re looking at how AI itself can help you stand out and boost your visibility through Generative Engine Optimization. Sounds a bit tangled? Let’s break it down and explore the tools that are worth getting to know!

What is GEO

In short, GEO (Generative Engine Optimization) is the process of optimizing content. It’s similar to traditional SEO (Search Engine Optimization), but with the focus on increasing presence in AI-powered search engines and solutions like Google SGE (Search Generative Experience), Bing Copilot, ChatGPT, or Perplexity AI. There are many GEO strategies. The main areas you have to focus on are:

  • Creating content for natural language queries, in other words, writing in a way people naturally talk, by keeping it clear, conversational, and most importantly, with user intent in mind;
  • Keeping the site structure in mind, which needs to be clear and logical. It’s also a good idea to learn more about schema markup;
  • Building brand authority by, for instance, getting featured in important sites from your niche, creating content clusters, using relevant keywords, and keeping the content valuable and up-to-date;
  • Remembering about technical SEO/GEO, by making your website easily crawlable for AI bots;
  • Finally, checking the results, by tracking what’s working and what’s not – some of the tools mentioned below can help you with that.

Generative Engine Optimization tools

Throughout this guide, we will look into both free and paid solutions, but we will not cover tools that are strictly made for content creation, as that’s already been addressed in our article on AI tools for publishers. Instead, we’ll concentrate on tools meant to assist with various tasks, such as:

  • Checking the visibility of your content on the most popular AI platforms;
  • Getting advice on how to improve your ranking in generative search;
  • Helping with creating and improving content clusters that are pivotal for generative models that favor well-structured content.

So, here are seven carefully chosen tools that can help you with Generative Engine Optimization:

  • Semrush AI Toolkit – the main task of this tool is to analyze and assist with optimizing your content for Large Language Models by delivering practical advice. It checks queries that appear concerning your brand and industry on the following AI platforms (currently): Google AI Mode, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, and SearchGPT. The AI Toolkit costs around 100$ per month for each domain, and you’ll need separate subscriptions for any extra domains. You can cancel your subscription at any time. Additionally, you can preview the tool’s capabilities by exploring an interactive demo, but there’s no option for a free trial;
  • Scrunch is designed mainly for tracking one’s position in AI search results. The tool supports leading AI assistants such as ChatGPT and Perplexity. After analysis, you will be able to see position charts, which will help you optimize your ranking. Currently, there are four available options, with pricing ranging from 300$ a month to 500$ and 1000$ a month, and the Enterprise solution with custom pricing. Each more expensive plan is designed to give you more tools and options, such as additional custom prompts or more user licenses;
  • Mangools AI Search Grader offers digital publishers an easy way to track their site position. It works with AI platforms Perplexity, Sonar, DeepSeek V3, X-AI’s Grok, Mistral AI, Claude by Anthropic, Meta’s Llama 4, and ChatGPT. Importantly, you will have to create a free account to access results from some of them. The good news is that AI Search Grader is free of charge, but the number of prompts is limited. The tool also analyzes and shows your competitors’ results;
  • Otterly is another tool that allows you to monitor your content’s performance on AI platforms like ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Copilot, Gemini, Google AI Mode, and Perplexity. The company offers a 14-day free trial. Monthly plan prices range from around 30$ a month to approximately 500$, but you can also ask their sales team about a custom option. The most vital differences between plan options are the number of search prompts at your disposal and the number of GEO Audits per month. Each plan includes the AI Keyword Research Tool;
  • Athena HQ is helping publishers by delivering the complete picture of how they’re showing up in AI search. This includes an overall GEO score against competitors, the ability to see which prompts trigger mentions, and possible areas of improvement. Paid plans start at around 300$ a month, but you can also choose more advanced options at around 600$ or a custom plan;
  • InLinks, with the help of an AI algorithm, aids in building website authority. Its mechanism is based upon entities, which are clearly defined topics or concepts recognized by search engines. InLinks maps how these entities connect and creates a graph page that aims to help you with internal linking and schema automation. You can also access guides that explain where to add missing details and the depth of topic coverage. You can choose from three monthly plans. The most affordable one starts at around 50$ a month, a more advanced option is priced at around 200$, but there is also a possibility of an Enterprise solution with top-tier features, starting around 1,200$ for each month of use;
  • MarketMuse is a platform designed to help publishers build topic authority by analyzing their content and identifying blind spots that can be filled. It also indicates which topics you need to prioritize based on their difficulty. You can try this content planning solution for free, or even use it free of charge with limitations. Prices for paid plans are not disclosed on the site, so it’s best to log in or make an appointment with their team.
