AI agent for publishers

If you regularly review your Google Ad Manager reports, you know exactly how time-consuming it can be to analyze daily revenue changes and track down specific performance metrics. To make this process much more efficient, there is a new tool designed specifically for publishers: Ask Ad Manager. Built directly into Google Ad Manager and powered by the Gemini model, an AI chatbot is already available in beta (meaning for some publishers), with new skills and more available versions rolling out throughout the year.

Instead of manually filtering through complex data sets, you can simply type your questions to the agent to get deeper insights, understand your ad performance, and make better business decisions faster. Crucially, the tool is highly specific to your setup; it relies exclusively on your own data to provide personalized answers and recommendations. This ensures that while you get tailored, immediate help, your publisher data remains completely safe and entirely under your control.

Faster answers with your own data

Google has confirmed they will not remove any existing GAM reporting or troubleshooting features as a result of the Ask Ad Manager introduction. Your standard interfaces, menus, and data exports remain fully available. However, the update provides a much faster alternative to traditional data management. The new chatbot simplifies this entire process by allowing direct text queries. Instead of clicking through multiple menus to generate a custom report, the process becomes immediate:

  • Direct answers: you type a specific question about your performance, and the AI instantly retrieves the exact data point or report;
  • Faster troubleshooting: the system identifies common setup issues directly from your prompt;
  • Reclaimed time: daily inquiries can be resolved in minutes rather than hours, making your administrative work much more efficient.

Google Ad Manager’s new developer tools and AI automation

Later this year, Google plans to release new developer tools, including REST APIs and an MCP server, designed to support key trafficking workflows and enable external applications and AI agents to interact with Google Ad Manager. Some large publishers are already experimenting with connecting their own AI agents to Ad Manager to automate advertising workflows. These connections can support recurring ad-operations tasks such as inventory forecasting, performance reporting, and trafficking workflows such as line-item creation and configuration.

This shift represents a move toward “agentic capabilities” in advertising technology. Instead of AI simply generating text or providing answers, connected AI agents can use tools and APIs to carry out multi-step operations with greater autonomy. Google is also building infrastructure that will allow first-party and third-party AI agents to interact at scale.

Focus on content, not technical operations

Every hour spent configuring complex spreadsheets is an hour taken away from developing your publication, improving User Experience, and increasing your overall revenue. Ask Ad Manager helps reduce this administrative workload significantly.
